MISCELLANEOUS : PARALLEL COUPLES

-------------------------------------------

Couple: Lily Evans and James Potter
From: Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling
Site: N/A

This is one of the couples that parallels Padmé and Anakin's story more in a thematic way than in the actual interaction of the characters themselves (which in this case probably more resembles Han and Leia).

There is a bit of a similarity in that James was very smitten with Lily early on, whereas it took some time for Lily to warm to him.  (Of course, with Padmé and Anakin, that warming has more to do with age difference than the girl finding the guy an obnoxious, arrogant jerk at first.) James himself was a talented, very cocky young wizard with a gift and love for flying - and breaking the rules - that he would pass on to his so. Lily herself was a beautiful, strong-willed, brilliant young witch.

As said, the parallels with Anakin and Padmé are more symbolic/thematic.  Lily and James become the parents of the series' main protagonist (Harry), who that child never knew, and never learned anything about until adulthood. All that was known about them at first was that they had had a son, and been brutally murdered by the wizard it would become their son's destiny to destroy, other bits of their history gradually revealed over time. Lily and James' romance was the young love that took root in a time of great upheaval for their world, when both were key players in fighting a war that would ultimately reshape that world and that neither would live to see the end of.  It was a happy life together cut short in the most brutal way possible, leaving their young child an orphan who would grow up knowing next to nothing about them.

Cut short though it was, Lily and James' love still produces Harry, a child of prophecy with a great (yet burdensome) destiny to fulfill. He the one who will save the wizarding world from the terror that claimed his parents and has long cast a shadow of fear over that world.  Both Lily and James sacrifice themselves in the hopes that their child will survive, as Anakin does for Luke and that Padmé would certainly do for her children as well.
