MOMENTS : REVENGE OF THE SITH

------------------

1.)  The Happiest Moment.  After his return from success in the Battle of Coruscant, Anakin is left to chat with Bail Organa among the pillars of the Senate Landing platform.  Spotting a familiar figure lurking in the shadows, he excuses himself, bounding over to Padmé and swinging her up and around in his arms.  They embrace and kiss fiercely; he whispers how he's missed her as a shaken Padmé confides fears he'd been killed.  As he assures her he's all right, he continues to stroke and try to kiss her.  She insists they shouldn't do that there - he says they should and he doesn't care if anyone knows they're married; he's tired of hiding.  It's then he notices she's trembling.  She tells him something wonderful has happened - she's pregnant.  Shock appears on his face, turning quickly to joy as he says it's wonderful.  She worriedly asks what they're going to do.  He strokes her hair and tells her they aren't going to worry about anything at that moment, that this is a happy moment - the happiest of his life. Both smiling, they kiss and embrace again.

------------------

2.)  So In Love.  On a balcony in Padmé's apartment, Padmé is in a nightgown brushing her hair.  Anakin leans on an archway, simply watching her with a content smile on his face.  She wistfully talks about how she wants to have their baby back on Naboo, where no one will know.  She continues, face lighting up, as she talks about going back early and setting up the baby's room.  Anakin, still entranced, tells her she's so beautiful.  She smiles again, retorting that it's only because she's so in love.  He says no, it's because he's so in love with her.  So love has blinded you? Padmé quips.  Anakin smiles and says that's not what he meant.  The two continue to share beaming smiles, so much so that you know there was some Jedi nookie goin' on shortly after...

------------------

3.)  NightmareThat night, Anakin experiences an intense nightmare of Padmé dying in childbirth, screaming and calling for him.  Shaken, he cradles his head for a few moments, before he leaves their bed and goes to the veranda.  Padmé notices and follows.  She asks what's wrong.  He tries to dodge the question, fingering the japor pendant around her neck and remembering when he gave it to her.  She doesn't take the dodge, and he confesses that he had a dream like the ones he had before his mother's death - except it was about her, dying in childbirth.  She asks about the baby, but he doesn't know.  He promises he won't let this one become real.  Padmé tells him the baby will change their lives - she probably won't be able to continue to serve in the Senate, and he'd certainly be expelled from the Order if the Council found he was the baby's father.  She asks if Obi-Wan might help, and he firmly denies needing it.  He tells her their baby is a blessing, smiling and embracing her.

------------------

4.)  Hold Me.  The scene opens on a wide shot of Padmé and Anakin on the couch on her veranda.  He leans over and rubs her belly, and they smile.  After a moment, Padmé starts wondering aloud about the Republic - whether it's become the enemy they thought they were fighting.  Anakin is suspicious of her talk, saying she sounds like a Separatist.  She asks him to put forth a request to the Chancellor to give up his powers; obviously troubled, Anakin gets up from the couch, and snaps back that that request should be made in the Senate where it belongs.  Sensing his trouble, Padmé goes over to him, touching him gently and entreating him to not shut her out, to let her help him.  She wraps her arms around him and tells him to hold her like he used to on Naboo, when their love was their only concern.  He does, and her face seems content, eyes closed, as it rests against his chest.  But Anakin's own face, looking into the distance, is still clearly troubled.

------------------

5.)  I Promise You.  We see Anakin experience another vision of Padmé suffering in childbirth, of Obi-Wan telling her to hold on, but Padmé still failing anyway.  Anakin is on the couch in Padmé's sitting room.  Padmé comes in, smiling at the sight of her husband.  He asks if Obi-Wan was there; she says he came by that morning, as she passes by the couch and rests a hand on Anakin's shoulder.  Anakin follows her to their room, asking what Obi-Wan wanted.  Padmé says Obi-Wan's worried about Anakin, that Anakin's under a lot of stress.  Anakin tells her that Obi-Wan and the Council don't trust him; she tries to reassure him that they trust him with their lives.  Anakin confesses to her that something's wrong with him and he's not the Jedi he should be - he knows he shouldn't want as much as he does.  She goes over to him, placing a hand on his arm.  Taking her into his arms, he tells her he's found a way to save her from his nightmares.  She continues to try to assure him, promising him she won't die in childbirth.  Immediately Anakin swears even more intensely, "No, I promise you."

------------------

6.)  Fateful Choice.  Palpatine, in his continued attempts to persuade Anakin to Sith teachings (which he insists is the only way to save Padmé), reveals his true identity to Anakin.  After telling Mace Windu, Anakin is ordered to wait in the Council chamber while Mace Windu and others go to arrest Palpatine.  As Anakin sits he hears Palpatine whisper in his mind, that if Anakin lets him die Padmé will be lost.  At the same time, Padmé alone in her apartment suddenly looks up and moves to her window, looking out towards the Jedi Temple.  Anakin, through his own window, is staring back at her apartment building.  Though they are miles apart, they seem to be staring directly at one another.  Worry appears on Padmé's face, while Anakin visibly struggles - tears running down his face - with the decision to stay there or go to save Palpatine, believing Padmé's life hangs in the balance, and knowing what it will cost him to save her.  In the end, Anakin does go to save Palpatine, resulting in Windu's death.  He desperately pleads to Palpatine to just help him save Padmé, that he can't live without her.  He pledges himself as Palpatine's apprentice.

------------------

7.)  I'm Sure He's All Right.  As the Jedi Temple is under attack, Padmé stares out at the flames.  Threepio comes along and tells him he had heard Anakin was going to the Temple.  Likely believing him hurt or dead, Padmé breaks down into tears.

------------------

8.)  Wait For Me.  After he leads the attack on the Temple, Anakin - now Vader - returns to Padmé on her veranda.  She runs to him and holds him, telling him how frightened she was.  He says he's returned to make sure she and the baby are safe.  She tells him she'd seen the Temple in flames - he coolly tells her the Jedi have risen against the Republic, that he himself witnessed the Council attempt to assassinate Palpatine.  Padmé worries what they will do now.  He says he has one final mission, to deal with the Separatist leaders on Mustafar, and then this war will be over.  He tells her to have faith, stroking her cheek as they share a passionate kiss.  He tells Padmé to wait for him and leaves quickly in his fighter, a still worried Padmé remaining on the veranda.

------------------

9.)  A Very Great Threat Knowing he must deal with Anakin's turn, Obi-Wan goes to Padmé's apartment in search of him.  She refuses to give up Anakin's location.  Obi-Wan reveals to her that Anakin has turned to the Dark Side, that he has even killed Jedi younglings.  Padmé reels, denying Anakin could have done this.  Obi-Wan tells her Anakin - like everyone - has been manipulated by Palpatine, that Anakin has become a threat.  She looks at Obi-Wan in horror, realizing Obi-Wan is looking for Anakin to kill him.  She still insists she can't tell him where Anakin is.  Obi-Wan, finally noting Padmé's pregnancy, puts the pieces together and realizes Anakin's the father.  He gives condolences to her, leaving her alone.

------------------

10.)  This is Personal.  Padmé decides to go to Mustafar alone, to try to warn and save Anakin.  Typho insists she be accompanied, but she refuses, saying this trip is personal.  She does not notice that Obi-Wan has slipped aboard her ship.  After she lands on Mustafar, we see Padmé clearly very troubled, near tears, over what she may be about to face. When she sees Anakin, though, she still runs into his arms.

------------------

11.)  A Path I Cannot FollowAfter his slaughter of the Separatist leaders, Anakin sees Padmé's ship land.  They run into each other's embrace, Anakin asking what she's doing there.  She says Obi-Wan's told her horrible things - that he's turned to the Dark Side, that he's killed younglings.  Anakin denies none of it, saying he's done it all to protect her.  She continues to plead him to leave with her, to run away, so they can raise their child together.  She only wants his love, but Anakin, drunk on the Dark Side, tells her love can't save her - only his new powers.  He raves that they don't need to run anymore, that he's brought peace to his Empire and they can rule together.  Padmé backs away in horror, saying she doesn't know him anymore.  Tears fill her eyes as she declares he's breaking her heart and going on a path she cannot follow.  Because of Obi-Wan, he assumes, seeing Obi-Wan on the ship behind her.  His rage ignites, accusing Padmé of bringing Obi-Wan there to kill him.  She denies, still pleading, telling him she loves him.  Anakin snaps, crying out "LIAR!" as he reaches out with the Force, choking her to unconsciousness. He stares at her in something like shock for a moment, then suddenly turns and rages that Obi-Wan turned her against him and won't take her from him. Obi-Wan counters Anakin's already done that himself.

------------------

12.)  Is Anakin All Right?  After the duel, Obi-Wan goes to the medical bed on the Naboo skiff to check on Padmé.  She struggles into consciousness, asking if Anakin is all right, before slipping back to unconsciousness.

------------------

13.)  There is Still Good in Him.  In the Polis Massa medical facility, a seemingly healthy Padmé is slipping away for reasons that baffle the medics.  As Anakin screams from his reconstruction on the operating table, Padmé screams in labor (and perhaps feeling Anakin's pain as well), their agonies seemingly linked.  After she delivers and names the twins, Obi-Wan holds baby Luke next to her.  She shakingly reaches to touch Luke's face as she struggles to tell Obi-Wan that she knows there is still good in Anakin.  She manages to get the words out as she dies, just as the Vader mask is lowered on to Anakin's face.

------------------

14.)  Where is Padmé?  After his reconstruction is finished, suited Vader's first words are about Padmé - echoing her earlier words about him, asking where she is, if she's all right.  Sidious coolly lies that Vader's angry outburst apparently killed her.  Vader reels against this, denying he could have - he'd felt that she was alive.  Something like a growl begins to emanate from him, and suddenly bottles and equipment in the room begin to smash and twist, as Vader rips his bonds away from the operating table, staggering forward almost blindly.  He lifts his head and arms up and lets out an anguished, echoing "No!" as his grief and guilt overpower him.

------------------

15.)  Beyond Death.  In Padmé's funeral procession, in her casket, the last we see of her is a clear shot of her hands - which forever clasp the japor pendant Anakin gave her as a boy.
