Episode I: The Phantom Menace novelization
by Terry Brooks

Page 113.
"I'm going to marry you," the boy said suddenly...

"Well I'm afraid I can't marry you, Anakin.  You're just a little boy."

His gaze was intense as he faced her.  "I won't always be," he said quietly.

"Telling you who I really am doesn't mean my feelings for you have changed.  I was the same person before, whether you knew the truth about me or not."

Episode I: Queen Amidala Journal
by Jude Watson

Entry 5, "Anakin."
Page 35:  His piercing dark eyes beamed a fierce curiosity, giving him a look of intelligence... His stare was unnerving, more like a man's than a boy's.
Page 36:  I have to admit I was pleased by the compliment of this funny boy.

Entry 6, "Fate is a Tangle."
Page 41:  It was a mature view for a boy.  Again, I was struck by Anakin's clear mind.
Page 43:  Anakin held my hand firmly, leading us through the howling storm toward safety.  And as he did, I had the strange sensation that I had met one thread of my fate.

Entry 7, "A Way Out."
Page 50:  For a moment, Shmi and I locked eyes.  Something passed between us.  As though she were giving her son to me.  How odd.

Entry 9, "In the Hands of a Boy."
Page 65. "Can't you stay?" He looked hopeful.

"I'm sorry, Anakin," I said.  "We must go.  We've stayed too long.  I promise I won't forget you."

"Promise?"

"Promise."

Page 66:  Padmé would have looked back for a last goodbye.  A Queen cannot.

Entry 10, "Some Great Evil."
Page 72.  I touched [the japor pendant], and I felt the same sense of comfort and protection [as when her father gave her his amulet].  Anakin has given me something more precious than he knows.
Page 73.  Thanks to Anakin, I had a moment of peace.  Sometimes, just one moment is enough.

Entry 11, "Queen."
Page 77.  I wish I could have given him a warmer goodbye.  I don't know why this boy has become so important to me, but he has.

Entry 14, The Alliance.
Page 94.  Under my tunic, I felt Anakin's japor pendant against my skin.  Maybe it was a symbol of a new power I would achieve.  The power of truth.
Later that page.  [after her Queen revelation]  Anakin looked at me in disbelief.  We are still the same, I told him with my eyes.  He looked down at the ground.

Entry 16, Joy and Mourning.
Page 109.  Anakin suffers.  In the midst of my sadness, I am proud of him.  He bears his sorrow bravely.
Page 111.  Before the parade, Anakin and I snatched a private goodbye.

"I'll see you again," he promised me, in that fierce, serious way he has.

I touched his cheek.  "I have no doubt that you will," I told him.  "Our fates are bound together, Anakin.  That I know."

Star Wars: Rogue Planet
by Greg Bear

Page 99: Somewhere in that life would be a woman, though Jedi did not often marry.  [Anakin] imagined the woman to be like Queen Amidala of Naboo, a powerful person in her own right, lovely and dignified, yet sad and shouldered with great burdens--which Anakin would help lift.

Star Wars: Jedi Quest #5 - The School of Fear
by Jude Watson

Page 30: [Marit's] brown eyes twinkled at him.  They were deep and warm and reminded him of another girl, more beautiful than this one - a queen, in fact.  He saw the same intelligence, the same confidence.  That memory, more than [Marit's] friendliness... dissolved the knot of anger in his belly.

Episode II: Attack of the Clones novelization
by R. A. Salvatore

p.42: Padmé Amidala.  The name resonated in young Anakin's heart and soul.  He hadn't seen her in a decade... he had only been ten years old at the time, but from the moment he had first laid eyes on Padmé, young Anakin had known that she was the woman he would marry.

p. 71: She saw him again, in her thoughts.  And clearly.  Her mental eye roamed over his lean and strong frame, over his face, tight with the intensity that she had always admired, and yet with eyes sparkling with joy, with mischief, with... with longing?

p. 122: For the first time since they had been reunited, Padmé truly looked into the blue eyes of the young Padawan, locked stares so that they each could view the other's heart.

p, 122, Padmé:  "There's no denying that you've... that you've grown up."

p. 141: She could see [Anakin] now, not as a Jedi Padawan and her protector, but just as a young man.  A handsome young man, and one whose actions repeatedly professed his love for her... A man who was inevitably following the call of his heart above that of pragmatism and propriety.  And all for her.  Padmé couldn't deny the attractiveness of that.

Episode VI: Return of the Jedi Novelization
by James Kahn; trilogy one-volume edition

(Try and tell me Anakin's not thinking of his time on Naboo during this sequence, his death on the Death Star.  That's some impressive continuity work there, considering this book was written 20 years before we ever saw those scenes!)

Page 466.  And this memory brought a wave of other memories with it.  Memories of brotherhood, and home.  His dear wife...

[later that page]  Suddenly he smelled something-- flared his nostrils, sniffed once more.  Wildflowers, that was what it was.  Just blooming, it must be spring.

And there was thunder-- he cocked his head, strained his ears.  Yes, spring thunder, for a spring rain.  To make the flowers bloom.

Star Wars: Republic comics series

Issue #52, Anakin [a mental letter to Padmé] : "Padmé, my love, Jedi aren't suppose to feel fear, but I am afraid. I'm afraid for you. The Confederacy has turned Ohma-dun into a graveyard...and Naboo is next. I just want to abandon my mission and fly to you...but there are innocents here who still need to be rescued. I know you'd want me to risk everything for them. So I fight in the shadow of Jango Fett and try not to be afraid."

Star Wars: Clone Wars - Episode #21

In one scene, Anakin is walking the lower levels of Coruscant.  Sensing someone following him, he continues to look over his shoulder, finally darting into an alley, where he snatches his cloaked stalker into the alley with him, lighting his lightsaber at their throat - but then he recognizes his stalker as Padmé.

Padmé: "Ani!" [They kiss.]
Anakin: "I've... missed you so much."

[After stealing another kiss, Anakin looks furtively out of the alley, clutching her to him.]
Anakin: "I'm tired of all this.  Our love should not be hidden like it's some kind of immoral thing!"
Padmé: "Ani, you're almost a Jedi Knight.  And then..."
Anakin: "And then what?  Jedi aren't supposed to be married.  Oh, it doesn't matter."
Padmé: "It does matter.  We knew it would be like this.  Perhaps things can change after the war.  But for now, the Republic needs you.  And in the shadows of Coruscant, or any other city, and most importantly in my heart, I will always love you."
Anakin: "Well... you do look really good in the dark."
Padmé: "Ani..." [They kiss again.]

[Anakin is summoned by the Jedi Council.]
Anakin: "I don't want to go."
Padmé: "You must, Ani."
Anakin: "I love you." [They kiss once more.]
