A Hero Falls

You were true and perfect, before you fell,

From pure to tainted, from Heaven to Hell,

Drawing you in, insecurities like bait,

Turned wrong to right, and love to hate.

We fought long and hard, a battle for your soul,

But when we finished that day, you were less than whole.

You were taken in, twisted by lies,

Until now the darkness clouds your eyes.

Your trust was broken, your hope decayed,

Your lifeline dirty, sodden and frayed.

I see you now, your face streaked with tears,

And the ageless marks of the passing years.

You dream of Nothing, and Nothing’s all you see,

And if you let it, Nothing’s all you’ll be.

Staring out the window of this cold dark cell,

You were boy turned man, the Hero that Fell.
