Episode 6x05: An Old Friend

1) Rescue. Padmé is sent to the Banking Clan to secure additional war funding, and told she must negotiate with Rush Clovis. She is instantly mistrustful, but he convinces her there is deception on the part of the Banking Clan’s ruling council and asks her help to break into their vault to steal the data to prove it. Following this attempt, Padmé is arrested for espionage, and Anakin is sent to recover her.
Their initial encounter is warm, Anakin teasing about what she’s gotten herself into now. Padmé is relieved to see him. However, upon realizing Clovis’s involvement, Anakin’s mood sours. She says her working with him is all for the Republic; Anakin retorts it’s always about the Republic when Clovis is involved. He tells her to accompany him back to his ship before he changes his mind about freeing her. Pissy much? (I get the creators were trying to establish Anakin’s descent to the Dark Side, but IMO - what makes his actions against Padmé late in ROTS so horrifying is in part BECAUSE it’s so unexpected from him, that he would direct his anger at her.)

2) Escape. Anakin reluctantly agrees to take Padmé to Clovis’ home to recover the data she stole from the vault. Upon encountering Clovis, the two men instantly bristle against each other. Anakin helps Padmé and Clovis escape, but makes it clear it was for her, not Clovis.
