THE MOMENTS: THE CLONE WARS (2008)

------------------

Episode 3x15-17: The Mortis Trilogy

-

1) Unsettling Visions. Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Ahsoka are transplanted to a mysterious world which, like its three inhabitants, is incredibly powerful in the Force, and where Anakin is to learn whether he is in fact the Chosen One. One inhabitant, the Son, aligns with the Dark Side and is the source of several unsettling visions for Anakin.

The first night on the world, Anakin is faced with a vision of his late mother. He rebuffs it at first, but is soon softened by his guilt over Shmi's death and what it led him to do. She tells him not to let his guilt define him. He replies that the only love he feels is haunted by what would happen if he were to let go. Shmi tells him that's not love, it's a prison. Anakin protests that he has a wife, who is everything to him. She is not your destiny, Shmi says. Anakin protests more desperately, that he loves her. This angers the Shmi apparition; she refers to Padmé as a poisoner, briefly reveals her true form, and disappears.

Later, Anakin confronts the Son, feeling he can not leave this world without doing so. The Son shows Anakin visions of his future - all the atrocities he will commit as a Sith, including choking Padmé (who, curiously, does not appear pregnant). Anakin is so stricken by these visions that he agrees to join the Son, believing this to be the only way to keep the visions from coming to pass. He is only freed of the Son's influence when the Father - responsible for keeping balance on this world - erases Anakin's memory of the visions.
