Clone Wars Cast Script Reading

NOTE: This short skit was part of the Clone Wars segment of the SDCC "Star Wars Spectacular" and was read/performed by Anthony Daniels (C-3P0), Matt Lanter (Anakin), James Arnold Taylor (Obi-Wan), Catherine Taber (Padmé), Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka), and Tom Kane (Yoda). The skit oversees a transitional scene, picking up after the end of "Hostage Crisis" and apparently setting the characters up for the opening of season 2. Anakin wants to charge off after Cad Bane immediately, while Obi-Wan and Padmé - fruitlessly, of course - encourage him to be patient.

Given the context of this skit, and especially certain ad-libs, I'd suggest taking a very large grain of salt with this before accepting it as any sort of "fixed" continuity! But there was so much hilarious Ani/Padmé innuendo - scripted as well as unscripted - that I had to set up a page for it. I omitted the segments that didn't directly involve A/P, but that wasn't actually very much, so what's below is actually a fair portion of the skit. The transcript below doesn't do justice to seeing the actual reading, which has been kindly uploaded onto YouTube. It's definitely a blast! The whole cast was lovely, but Taylor in particular stole the show.

Anakin: "What's really going on? I'll tell you what's going on! Bane is getting further and further away every minute, while we just sit here doing nothing."
Padmé: "Anakin, please. I think you should listen to Obi-Wan."
James/Obi-Wan: [Makes a Jedi Mind Trick gesture] "Yes, listen to Obi-Wan."
Anakin: "How can you side with him after what we went through today?"
Padmé: "I'm not siding with Obi-Wan, I'm just being practical."
Obi-Wan: "Yes, and practically speaking, you should listen to her, Anakin."
Padmé: "Thank you."
Anakin: "I can't stand it when the two of you work together. Am I the only one who wants to take some initiative around here?"
Ahsoka: "Master, I've been talking to Rex. They tracked Bane's craft into orbit after they left the capital."
Anakin: "FINALLY! At least someone's thinking around here."
Padmé: "Excuse me?"
Obi-Wan: "Yes, pardon me?"
Anakin: "Hold that thought. What else did Rex say?"
Ahsoka: "He said that Bane and his cronies split up when they reached the outer atmosphere."
Anakin: "Hmm. That complicates things."
Padmé: "Anakin, I think you're hardly in any condition to go after Bane. You were just his hostage, after all."
[Anakin gestures sheepishly; Ahsoka bursts into laughter]
Ahsoka: "You were held hostage?"
[Anakin raises his hands defensively]
Anakin: "I was unarmed when Bane caught me."
Obi-Wan: "Don't tell me..."
Obi-Wan and Ahsoka together: "You lost your lightsaber again?"
Anakin: "I got it back..."
Padmé: "Yes, after I gave it to you."
Obi-Wan: "Wait, wait. You? Um, how did you get it?"
Padmé: "Oh!"
Anakin: "Uh..."
[Both gesture awkwardly]
Padmé: "I was just holding it while Anakin - I had something to cut."
Anakin: [mumbles in agreement] "Something to cut."
Cat/Padmé: "It was heavier than I thought."
[Audience laughs]
Anakin: "That's - that's not important. What's important is that I got it back... and saved the day. Like always."
Ahsoka: "Oh, brother."

Anakin: "Padmé, I uh... I'm glad you're all right."
Padmé: [Eyeing him warmly] "Thanks to you. Goodbye."
Yoda: "Disturbing, the course of events have been of late."
James/Obi-Wan: "What's disturbing is that none of us ever see what's really going on between the two of them."
[Audience laughs and whoops loudly. Cat leans briefly into Matt and he pumps a fist in the air.]
James/Obi-Wan: "Sorry, that wasn't in the script."

Ahsoka: "I'd rather go after the bounty hunter."
Matt/Anakin: [grinning] "I'd rather go after Padmé in a - " [grins again] "Uh, never mind."
